Sophie Ann Rooney
Sophie trained as an actor at the Bilingual Acting Workshop in Paris under Lee Strasberg and Shelley Winter’s protégé, Amy Werba. She has trained with teachers from The Actor Studio, Stanislavski-Atelier Blanche Salant, Steppenwolf, Central School of Speech & Drama, Oxford School of Speech & Drama and with acting coaches Larry Moss and Valerie Landsburg. Sophie has appeared in numerous theatre and TV productions. Her favorite roles have been as Lisa in The Glory of Living by Rebecca Gilman at ‘Les Voutes Theatre’ and as Margot in the SPACE channel series Grand Star directed by Canadian director Paolo Barzman. Before moving to Canada in 2008, Sophie taught the Professional Teenage Workshops at the Bilingual Acting Workshop and the university students at the American University of Paris. Sophie took a BFA Directing degree at E.I.C.A.R - International Film School of Paris and has directed several short films and plays. Her film Fallen Fighter has screened at over 20 international film festivals, including the Oscar contender Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and received a Grand Prix award for best film from a distinguished panel of judges including Coline Serreau, Frederick Mitterrand and Christophe Malavoy. In Vancouver, she has directed Beggars in the House of Plenty at the Beaumont Stage and the short film Bollywood Beckons. |
